B-1B Lancer

The Rockwell B-1B Lancer, nicknamed the "Bone", is a supersonic heavy bomber of the United States Air Force with variable-sweep wings, designed to penetrate air defences at low altitude. The original B-1A was cancelled in 1977 and revived by President Reagan in 1981 as the B-1B, slower but with a smaller radar signature. It entered service in 1986 as a nuclear bomber, lost that role after the Cold War and first saw combat over Iraq in 1998, followed by Kosovo, Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria. Around 45 of the 100 built remain in service and are to be replaced by the B-21 Raider.
