The D-327 V/HXM was a tiltrotor concept created by Bell Helicopter for the US Marine Corps HXM (Replacement Assault Transport Helicopter) program. This 1980s program was created to find a replacement for the existing medium-lift helicopters, such as the CH-46 and CH-53A/D. While this aircraft was never built, the Marine Corps today operates the V-22 Osprey, a Bell Boeing tiltrotor with a very similar design. The specific version in the game is based on a proposed gunship variant of the D-327 V/HXM.
