RIM-8 Talos was an air defense system used by the US Navy. It was one of the earliest surface-to-air missile (SAM) systems adopted by naval forces. RIM-8 entered service in 1958. The SAM-N-6bw/RIM-8B and SAM-N-6c/RIM-8E variants of this system are capable of launching nuclear missiles. RIM-8 Talos was withdrawn from service in 1979.
