Chongqing was originally the British light cruiser HMS Aurora, commissioned in 1937. During the Chinese Civil War, the ship was sold to the Nationalist side (KMT). Later, Chongqing defected to the Communist side (CPC) but was sunk by Nationalist aircraft in 1949. It was salvaged by the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) and used as floating warehouse. The ship in the game is a hypothetical modernized version of the cruiser, featuring missile launchers and other newer weapon systems.
