Real
Kursk (K-141) was a Russian Navy submarine of the Project 949A Antey-class, known to NATO as Oscar II. It was nuclear-powered and built to carry cruise missiles. Named after the Battle of Kursk, it was commissioned in 1994. On 12 August 2000, Kursk sank in the Barents Sea during a large-scale Russian Northern Fleet naval exercise following two catastrophic explosions in its torpedo compartment. All 118 people on board lost their lives.
