The Sovetsk is the second ship of the Karakurt class (Russian designation: Project 22800), a class of small missile ships developed by the Almaz Central Marine Design Bureau in St. Petersburg. It was laid down as Taifun and joined the Baltic Fleet in 2019. The class was designed to work in open sea, unlike the Buyan-M-class corvettes it complements, which were built for rivers and shallow waters.
