The BGM-109 Tomahawk is an American long-range cruise missile originally developed by General Dynamics for the United States Navy. It was introduced in 1983 and is launched from surface ships and submarines. A nuclear-armed version, the BGM-109A Tomahawk Land Attack Missile-Nuclear (TLAM-N), carried the W80 nuclear warhead. It was never used in combat. It was withdrawn from ships and submarines in 1991 and retired by 2013. Current Tomahawks are built by Raytheon and carry only conventional warheads.
