The Type 022, known to NATO as the Houbei class, is a Chinese missile boat with a wave-piercing catamaran hull built from aluminum. The design is based on a hull by AMD Marine Consulting and includes features that reduce its radar signature. The People's Liberation Army Navy took the first boats into service in 2004, and production at several shipyards ended in 2009. The boats usually operate in squadrons of eight.
