ROKS Sejong the Great (DDG-991) was the first Aegis destroyer of the Republic of Korea Navy and leads the class named after it and the Joseon dynasty king. It was built by Hyundai Heavy Industries, launched in 2007 and commissioned in 2008. The class is close to the American Arleigh Burke and Japanese Atago destroyers, sharing the AN/SPY-1D(V) radar and the Aegis combat system, but the ships are larger and carry more missiles.
