The Modern Warships October update brings many changes to six maps featured in the game. The reworked maps feature added cover and updated spawn points. This will hopefully reduce cases where you get blind-fired by the enemy team or nuked from the other side of the map as soon as you get spotted.
We’ve updated the maps on our maps page with the new layouts, but we thought it would be also interesting to compare the maps to their previous incarnations. Below you will find comparisons between the current maps and their previous versions.
Greenlands
Version 0.54

The center of Greenland featuring the volcanic island is pretty much the same but additional cover has been added between the aircraft carrier spawns and the normal spawns. This means aircraft carriers are a lot less vulnerable to attacks after being spotted. In addition to this, the spawn points have been re-arranged in a diagonal layout in the corners of the map rather than the top and the bottom as before.
Storm

This map layout is essentially the same except the spawn points have been changed to a diagonal layout, like we’ve seen in Greenlands. Otherwise, Storm is open as ever and no extra cover has been added, unlike the other updated maps.
Islands of Iceland
Version 0.54

The map geometry between the two versions is essentially the same except for the spawns. Carriers spawn further back this time and they are protected by an additional island that has been added. This seems like a bit of an unnecessary change since this is one of the more closed maps because of the copious island cover.
Unexplored Rocks

This map has seen a lot of changes. In the old version, the rocks have been a bit haphazardly scattered throughout the map. In the new version of the map, the rocks are concentrated more in the center of the map in a layout similar to Arctic. This also opens up some flanking routes at the edges of the map. Like the other maps, the spawn points are now in a diagonal instead of a linear layout.
Arctic
Version 0.54
Version 0.55
Spawn locations have been changed on the Arctic and CVs now spawn further back with additional iceberg cover. There’s also slightly more cover due to the repositioned spawns and the fact the islands that were originally behind the spawn have been moved further to the center. The center of the map is still pretty much the same.
I’m not sure how necessary these changes are since Artic has long been the map with the best game flow due to the abundance of cover on the map. I guess the repositioned cover could make flanking on the edges of the map more interesting.
Lost City
Version 0.54
Version 0.55
The map has plenty of buildings added in the center of the map for additional cover. This will hopefully reduce the cases where there is direct visibility to the enemy spawn on the other side of the map. Interestingly, there are no changes to the spawn layout, unlike the other updated maps.
